3 Reasons Why You Need to Experience the Provo Pioneer Village

An Interactive Pioneer Life Experience

Reading about the lifestyles of the men, women and children who helped forge our nation is one thing, but witnessing it firsthand? Now that’s worth a trip. Experience pioneer village life when you visit the Provo Pioneer Village, you’ll see houses, artifacts and environment accurate to the mid-19th century. Visit the General Store and check out inventory that settlers would have purchased, or visit the blacksmith shop, where you can watch live blacksmithing demonstrations! Original cabins constructed by pioneers are still standing, and gardens are tended to demonstrate how the pioneers sustained themselves. Volunteers at the Provo Pioneer Village dress in authentic pioneer garb, adding to the experience. Whether you’re exploring the wood shop, the school or any of the cabins, you’ll feel as if you’ve traveled back in time!

Exciting Events and Engaging Classes

Year round, the Provo Pioneer Village hosts fairs and events that everyone can enjoy. Join the fun at Pioneer Craft Day in June 4, 2016, where you can take part in games, making your own cornhusk dolls, craft demonstrations and more! This year’s events calendar also includes a Fourth of July Celebration and the Pioneer Day Extravaganza on July 23. These events are a perfect way to get the whole family involved!

The Provo Pioneer Village also hosts Community Showcases, an exciting event including storytelling, wagon rides, butter making and more. According to the Calendar of Events page, these showcases are held from May to September, and allow community groups to participate in celebrating Provo pioneer heritage. Visit the the Calendar of Events page for more information.

Educational Opportunities

Maybe history isn’t just a subject you studied in school, or an occasional conversation topic; instead, it’s your interest and your future career! If that’s the case, then consider an internship with the Provo Pioneer Village. You can earn college credit while helping contributing in number of channels, including collections research, marketing, administrative duties and more.
